Recuse Me While I Drag This Out
March 18, 2004
I don't understand how Justice Scalia can be so bold as to refuse to recuse himself from the Cheney case soon to come before the Court. Granted, I haven't read his 22 page explanation, but it seems very clear to me that there's no way he could be impartial in judging a case so closely related to his friend, especially when these two friends recently went on a hunting trip together. If this weren't enough, Scalia apparently also invited a friend of his who owns an oil rig services firm to the trip, introducing him to Cheney. Do you think the topic of energy might possibly have come up while they were in the woods? Scalia should recuse himself. If the Court ends up siding with Cheney 5-4, I think it will surely taint the verdict.
