Republican Hypocrisy Watch

Bush and Republicans accuse Kerry campaign of violating campaign finance law. The NY Times reports: Kerry and Democratic Groups Accused of Finance Violations

The Bush campaign and the Republican National Committee are filing a complaint with the Federal Election Commission contending that the activities of the Kerry campaign and its supporters are illegal under the new McCain-Feingold campaign finance law and other sections of the code. They also made an unusual request of asking the commission to dismiss their complaint; this would allow the matter to bypass the agency's slow enforcement process and go directly to the courts.

This looks like another of those do as we say, not as we do moments by the Republicans. Remember the ad attacking "latte-drinking, sushi-eating, Volvo-driving, New York Times-reading, Hollywood-loving, left-wing freak show" Dean supporters? Paid for by right-wing organizations via People for the American Way.

Plus, Republicans may be abusing government power for mere political aims: Republicans Use Treasury Dept. to Criticize Kerry

Democrats sharply criticized Republicans on Wednesday for using career civil servants at the Treasury Department to prepare a critique of tax policies that was apparently used to attack Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee.
